Company Profile
Lay Hong Berhad
(LHB) was incorporated in Malaysia as a private
limited company on 27 September 1983, under the Companies Act, 1965 as Lay Hong
Farm Sdn. Bhd.. On 27 November 1993, the Company changed its name to Lay Hong
Sdn. Bhd. and on 3 January 1994, it was converted to a public company and
assumed its present name. It was listed on the Second Board of the Bursa
Malaysia on 28
October 1994.
The Group first commended poultry farming operations in the
1960s with the establishment of the sole proprietorship business of Lay Hong
Poultry Farm Co., by the late father of Mr. Yap Hoong Chai, Mr. Yeap Seak Yong.
Mr. Yap Hoong Chai with his two brothers, Mr. Yip Kim Hoong and Mr. Yeap Weng
Hong took over the control and management of their father's small layer poultry
farm in 1973. At that time, the business consisted of only one farm with
production capacity of 10,000 eggs per day.
The business embarked on an
expansion plan under the leadership of the three brothers and on 27 September
1983, Lay Hong Farm Sdn. Bhd. was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1965 to
acquire the operations of the sole proprietorship of Lay Hong Poultry Farm Co.
The LHB Group has achieved commendable growth and takes pride in the fact
that over the years, it has established itself firmly as the leading producer of
fresh farm eggs in Malaysia. The Group has also expanded into the broiler
business in the beginning of February 2000 when it subscribed for shares in IBSB,
a company principally involved in poultry farming making 50% subsidiary of LHB.
The Group has fully integrated its broiler and layer farming operations from the
production of poultry feed, breeding and hatching of day old chicks, production
of egg trays and the processing of chicken manure into organic fertiliser. The
layer and broiler farms of the Group are located in Selangor, Melaka and Sabah.
The LHB Group currently operates five layer farms, nine broiler farms, one
chick farm, three hatchery and breeder farms, two feedmills, one egg tray plant,
one chicken processing plant and three organic fertiliser processing plants. The
Group is currently able to produce approximately 950,000 eggs per day, 4,100,000
broilers per annum and 1,000 metric tons of organic fertiliser per month.
The
production at the feedmills and hatchery and breeder farms are for consumption
within the LHB Group other than the hatchery in Sabah which has excess day old
chicks for sale to third parties.
The Group is currently in the process of
constructing its tenth broiler farm and, on completion, will enable the increase
in broiler production by 500,000 per annum.
